Golf. Not the kind with windmills and pretty designs – but the ‘real’ kind with fairways, tees, and greens. That is what I’m talking about…
For years I’ll made fun of golfers for spending hours running around a green field catching a little while ball. It didn’t make sense to me why anyone would want to do that.
Then my brother fell to the spell and took a golfing Phys Ed course in college. I remember the day he took me aside and tried to teach me how to hit a gold ball. After an hour or so, my best swing propelled that little bad a grand total of ten feet….
With back ground, you can well image the horror that overcame me when my boss suggested playing a round of golf as a team builder. [@more@]I tried every trick, con, or excuse I could think of to re-direct the attention from golf to anything else – like white water rafting or paintball. However, in the end, golf won out and we headed out to play a nine hole round.
Luckily for me, none of my co-workers are huge golfers (in fact, we all had to borrow clubs from friends and family just to be able to play). What this means in practical terms is that we all were able to play together with out any one person creaming the rest of us.
For those golfers out there – most of the hole were 150 to 300 yards long with a 3 to 4 par. I usually hit any where from 6 to 11 while my co-workers hung about 6 or 7.
Now for my thoughts – it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. (yeah – I’ll eat some crow..)
It was actually kinda fun hanging out with some friends and whacking (or tying to whack) a ball. I wouldn’t want to take it up as a hobby – but I wouldn’t be against going out once in a while with friends.
